Perseverance…

“The christian life is a battle and a march.  In this warfare there is no release; the effort must be continuous and persevering.  It is by unceasing endeavor that we maintain the victory over the temptations of Satan.  Christian integrity must be sought with resistless energy and maintained with a resolute fixedness of purpose.  No one will be borne upward without stern, persevering effort in his own behalf.  All must engage in this warfare for themselves; no one else can fight our battles.  Individually we are responsible for the issues of the struggle; though Noah, Job and Daniel were in the land they could deliver neither son nor daughter by their righteousness.”  Ministry of Healing, Pg. 453.

I have been absent from this blog for sometime.  In that time much has happened and many lessons have been learned.  These lessons, I hope to share with you all as time progresses.  Yet, in this short word, I wanted to encourage those who are on the verge of giving up.  I encourage you to persevere.  Perseverance is defined by dictionary.com as “steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles or discouragement.”  In the last few months, I’ve truly come to appreciate the importance of perseverance.  I’ve come to understand that it’s one of the necessary graces as we walk this pilgrim’s journey.  As the above quote pointed out, this christian life is a battle and without perseverance we will never complete the journey.

Our Lord has never lied to us about the realities of this christian walk.  He told us plainly in John 16:33, “in the world ye shall have tribulation.”  However, the text did not end on that note, He further went on to tell us “but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”  And as Christ has overcome, so we too can overcome.
